B-B-Bad to the Boner

One of the final keys to fine-tuning a piece is flow. In my first draft I’m only concerned with getting it on the page. Second draft is more for typos, translating what fingers fumbled out into what I think I was trying to say – sometimes typos make for better lines 🙂

Next level is preparing it for the blog. Another level is preparing it for performance – many pieces don’t make it to this level. In performance pieces change as I gauge my pleasure in the flow it has and sometimes with how the audience responds. When I used paper I was guilty of massive edits while I was waiting to hit the stage.

With the Kindle I make edits as I go along, & sometimes remember them. Some pieces get performed several times before I’m really happy with them. ‘Born To Be Blown’ http://wp.me/p1RtxU-C2 is one of those that have been under going tweaks since I first performed it.

The early version is strong but I felt it went on a bit long and that the last ‘peak’ came too soon, at about about 3/4 point, instead of at the end. I already a great ending so I moved a few lines closer to that end & also cut some of the in-your-pants raunch because they already enough of that in it.

do I have to tell you

I want to fuck you in a song

or is that the sort of thing

you can’t say in a song

even with all the out singers

there’s still this smothering

hetero cloaking

of what queer pop performers

are willing to say

it’s fine to say I miss you in the morning

never I miss your woodie in the morning

the bed is so empty without you is acceptable

but my mouth is so empty without you

will never make to the charts

she can sing I long for the taste of you on my tongue

but I long for the taste of my pussy on your tongue

is just going to far

the empty space in the bed isn’t as lonely

as the empty space between my legs that

you used to fill with your face

gay songsters

don’t want to reduce being queer to body parts

but honey taking the sex out of homosexual

to maintain assimilationist acceptability

gets to be boring

why are there no queer anthems

like ‘Born to be Blown’

‘B-B-Bad to the Boner’

‘You Light Up My Ass’

if I have to tell you I want to fuck

you in a song

I guess I’m going have to write that song myself

but till I do lets get it on

find love where you can

find love where you can
