#NaNoWriMo #Playlist.02

Clocking in at over 20 hours is lots of new & not so new music on my Airmac: I heard a dynamic John McLaughlin cover by string.quartet but this was the only recording of their I could find:  Rigmor Gustafsson & radio.string.quartet.vienna: Calling You; Echun Okiry: Güiro for Elegguá – Music of Santería, Live Ceremonial Afro-Cuban Music. loysunset.JPGDee Dee is sister to Dionne. Richer voice & great r’n’b soul stuff:  Dee Dee Warwick & The Dixie Flyers: Turning Around; Dee Dee Warwick: I Want to Be With You – The Mercury/Blue Rock Sessions; Aïsha Devi: Aura 4 Everyone; Aïsha Devi: Of Matter and Spirit; Wemilere: Santeria; Robert Bertrand: Slide Area; Trevor Jones: The Last of the Mohicans (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack).stone.JPG

I have to a admit I have never heard the Little Pill album so I’m looking forward to learning about the past: Alanis Morissette: Jagged Little Pill; Baja Marimba Band: The Very Best Of; I watched ‘Face of Another’ & the waltz was by Toru, so I was off searching for mor bey this Japanese composer: Toru Takemitsu: Rising Sun (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack); Sarn Oliver, Robert Pollock & Mariko Smiley: Tangled Flow; Yuri Bashmet & Moscow Soloists: Dun: Pipa Concerto – Hayashi: Viola Concerto – Takemitsu: Nostalghia. greyrubble.JPG

Add a dash of really old & obscure tech with The Other People Place: Lifestyles of the Laptop Café; These next are lps I once had & haven’t heard in  decades. Shawn Phillips: Collaboration; Show of Hands: Formerly Anthrax; Show of Hands: Backlog 1987-1991; A few complilations: Teenage Rock & Roll Sinners; Walter Wanderly: The Best of Bossa Nova.greytower.JPG

As diverse as the NaNo playlist on my desktop – the addition of the Santería will be interesting to listen to – will I summon Papa Legba? If I do, Aïsha Devi’s stunning electronica dance music raga will get his toes tapping. The music will be the best part of NaNo next to racking up another 60,000 words this year. My reward maybe a pair of custom Timberland winter boots.

The Silent Treatment

silence and I

are no longer on speaking terms

not sure if was something I said

or something I held back

so as not mislead or hurt

not that I mind not hearing from silence

but somedays the brooding is tiresome

not even as much as good morning

nice to see you have a nice day

I have learned to live with silence

not having to have the right response

is a blessing a relief

not having to pretend to be listening

with little smiles and nods

to let silence know it’s understood

because frankly I don’t get silence

it doesn’t give me a clue to go on

beyond the brooding

never recriminates for my lack of insight

at times I welcome it but not often

into my world of fine endless noise where

without silence there is nothing

with silence there is nothing

it’s not that silence isn’t sweet fulfilling

but it isn’t attractive to me

I’m addicted to joyful noise

the gentle pasture of rippling silence

doesn’t hold any appeal for me

I am comforted by chatter

when there is none  worry slips in

what’s going on

why is so damn quiet around here

why have the birds stopped

ah yes – thats death about to pounce

silence and I

are no longer on speaking terms

it doesn’t care to break its vow

and listen to me

it makes no demands on me

doesn’t expect me to explain rationalize

merely waits there placid tranquil

because it knows

I will eventually enter its whisper

I will shuffle off my ear buds

to be taken into its patient embrace
