A Win/Win Situation

A Win/Win Situation

I have nothing to add

I had something to say

someone else has already it said it

there’s no need for me to repeat it

that is often the case

when I keep my big mouth shut

some else beats me to the punch

I can keep my thoughts to myself

which allows me to appear wiser than I am

silence often passes for depth

the less I say

the less I have to substantiate

I have nothing to prove

the fast to talk

have a need

to define their territory

to prove their knowledge

to get their point across

whereas I

am content to wait

maybe say enough

to agree or disagree

which gets my point across

to argue is to defeat the purpose

to say too much

is to take on more responsibility

than I need to

it keeps others from thinking for themselves

if it hasn’t been said

I can add my few cents worth

readily and once

it pays to say things only once

if you miss what I said

I may repeat it

but repetition isn’t productive either

saying it over and over

doesn’t strengthen a position

doesn’t inform

so I say once clearly

perhaps again with variation

if I’m not caught up in what I have to say

in what I have to establish

about who I am

I get to hear what you’re saying

I listen without formulating a response

whether I agree or not

is often irrelevant anyway

most people are so invested

in response

they don’t hear what anyone else may say

so why waste my time

on people who ask my thoughts

only to jump in with theirs

whenever possible

the less I say

the smarter you think you are

so it’s a win win situation

12-whitedresser-01This is one the pieces that directly reflects the Law (4) – saying less has always done well for me. There’s no fiction in this one either & it states my personal listening & conversing philosophy. That’s one of the reason, when in group settings – workshops, parties, – I let other lead & often only opine when asked to comment.12-whitechairOften by that point all I have to say that what I might have said has already been said. I’m not even that compelled to say what I might not agree with either. I have little to prove unless ‘you’ feel my silence means I agree with you then I will state that I don’t but won’t get pulled into explaining myself. 12-browndresser-03The good thing about not needing to argue is that I can listen without rehearsing a response – when I rehearse I response I end up not hearing correctly anyway. As I blogged before I find most people aren’t all the concerned about what I may think anyway. They’ll ask what I think then proceed to tell me what they think. They ask how my day was and proceed to tell me all about their day.12-browndresser-02

I know if somewhat asks what kind of dreams I have they really want to tell me all about theirs. What to I write? Oh your novel is going well, badly, whatever & ultimately mine is irrelevant to them.

I don’t have opinions I have smart ass one-liners.soon
