From a morning excursion to The Beaches area here in Toronto, Queen East past Woodbine. Walked the boardwalk on an overcast cast morning – sadly the threat of thundershowers turned into another hot sunny day 😦
I love hollyhocks & am always happy to see them in bloom. During World Wars I & II families were to replace flower gardens with Victory Gardens of vegetables. Hollyhock was the only flower allowed. They were vigorous self-seeders, hardy &, most importantly, attracted pollinators. The range of colours is astonishing – I’ve seen them nearly pitch black, deep purple & even a parchment brown. These shots are all of the hollyhock garden at the Danforth end of the East Lynn Park in Toronto.
The Paul Estrel Lane portion of this laneway runs from Woodbine Ave. to Woodmount Ave. The whole lane runs as far as Woodington Ave. I walk it once a month to notice changes. The Estrel has the most amount of garage art, though graffiti is on nearly every garage & store back along the lane.
